β˜• 2-Minute Tip: Birthday vocab πŸŽ‚

Welcome to your 2-Minute Tip - a short, practical English lesson for your busy day. Learn it in two minutes... use it for years!

How to talk about BIRTHDAYS in English

Today is my birthday! πŸŽ‚

To say your age, use β€œI am” or β€œI’m” – not β€œI have”:

I’m 42 years old. = I’m 42.
I have 42 years.

Use the verb turn (not "become") to describe the change in age:

I turned 30 last week.
My son is turning 16 tomorrow.

Finally, don't confuse the words birthday and anniversary:

A person’s birthday is the date when they were born.

We typically use the word anniversary for the date when two people got married (wedding anniversary), or the date when something special or important happened (ex. anniversary of the founding of a company).
